When I got home I went right to it and started to turn my pants into shorts. Once I cut them to my liking I distressed them using scissors and ripped them up a bit. I then set them in a bucket of bleach for a few minutes to make sure that the dye would come out as it should(I did this process outside to create less mess). Unfortunately it was rainy out so I had to let them sit overnight to dry(They would've dried quicker if it was sunny and hot out).
The next day they were mostly dry so it was time to add the color! I got my dye in a three pack at Walmart for about five dollars. I wanted to go for the ombre look so I went from lightest to darkest colors(In the pictures it you can't really see the purple, but it's on the bottom). I accidentally added too much dye in some places so the colors kinda seeped into each other, so be careful! After I finished dying the shorts I let them sit for 24 hours then rinsed the color out in cold water(make sure you get ALL of excess dye out! This part may take a while). Next I plopped them in the wash and then in the dryer. They came out even more distressed and fluffy looking(which I like).
Overall I'm pretty in love with these shorts! They fit really well and are perfect for the summer time. I really recommend making these because of how cute they turned out! I hope to try out more summer DIY's. Comment below if you have any ideas!
